Newness 1: Pret falafel and humous sandwich

It’s a bit shit to start your new blog by talking about a new sandwich, but it’s new, and that’s why I bought it. So therefore I will/must obey my own rules. (I will insert a picture, when I learn how).

There was already some pressure on this lunch after I threw away lunch number one - it’s at least a twice weekly occurrence for me to buy lunch from the canteen, have a mouthful, then, like a big baby chuck it in the bin because it tastes like school dinners (I never had school dinners). Today’s offender was shepherd’s pie (without the extra potatoes thanks. That's a double carb from hell). With some wet courgette. And some Asian coleslaw I put on the side (and didn’t admit to at the bit where you pay). I’m a bit of a wanker really for ever thinking I’d want to eat that for lunch, but I gave it my mouth and this time I threw it with minimum fuss and stomped quietly to Pret instead. I mean really I’m bored of every option in Pret, but my friend Tom talked me through their new menu on Tuesday (interesting!) and alerted me to the presence of a new 'Morrocan Falafel and Humous sandwich'. And as I like all those things it suggested a wise choice.

Here's why it probably wasn't (written while eating). It’s mainly quite damp. And sometimes it’s a bit sweet. There’s fresh coriander and that’s nice. There’s gerkins, but they taste horrible in it - and I’m a person who likes a gerkin, but not like this. The falafel was a bit crumbly, but then falafel mainly is, I couldn’t tell if there was humous in or not (I want to say it, hummus), there was definitely some tahini and the tomato wasn’t red enough.

So all in all I’d say: not totally offensive but mainly a waste of time. This isn’t an ideal start to trying new things.

Onwards and upwards Bownass, onwards and upwards.

Total newness.

So, here I am, totally writing a blog. It's about me, Helen, doing, newness. To be precise or specific, one new thing a day for, well a while really . Not in a wacky way. There will never ever be wackiness. And certainly not in a self-discovery way - gross off! Just to stop me being lazy and make me write some more.

New things can include: trying a new fizzy drink, learning about some new history, going to see a new film (or a not new film, because I don't, until today, watch films (and I don't like dreams, horoscopes or pictures of animals either!)), finding a new way to get to work (interesting), making a new friend or finding a new way of seeing an old friend, experimenting with a new lunch option in the work canteen (you should know you can get soup there for 24p!), buying a new t-shirt, going to a new (probably not new to the world, new to me) pub. It's a no-brainer really.

There'll be some pictures. There'll be some swearing. There'll be some forgetting. I'm excited.
